Mosapride Citrate Tablets 5mg “Sawai” is a gastrointestinal prokinetic medicine manufactured by Sawai Pharmaceutical. Mosapride stimulates serotonin 5-HT4 receptors in the digestive tract, promoting acetylcholine release and gastrointestinal movement.
Each white, scored, film-coated tablet contains 5.29mg of mosapride citrate hydrate, equivalent to 5mg of mosapride citrate. Tablet identification: SW M12.
Efficacy
- Gastrointestinal symptoms associated with chronic gastritis: heartburn, nausea and vomiting.
- An adjunct to oral bowel cleansing before a barium enema X-ray examination.
Usage
For Symptoms Associated with Chronic Gastritis
The usual adult dose is 1 tablet (5mg) three times daily, before or after meals, for a total of 15mg per day. Follow your doctor’s instructions.
Your doctor should assess symptom improvement and the need for continued treatment after a treatment period, usually 2 weeks.
For Barium Enema X-ray Preparation
The usual adult regimen is 4 tablets (20mg) with approximately 180mL of the prescribed oral bowel-cleansing solution when administration of that solution begins, followed by 4 tablets (20mg) with a small amount of water after administration of the solution finishes.
This regimen is specifically for examination preparation. Follow the examination team’s instructions. Clinical trials of this combination have been conducted with Niflec, a polyethylene-glycol electrolyte bowel-cleansing preparation; other bowel-cleansing preparations have not been studied for this indication.
Remove each tablet from the PTP blister before taking it. Never swallow the blister packaging.

- Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have had allergic reactions to medicines or foods, are pregnant or may be pregnant, are breastfeeding, or use other medicines or supplements.
- Anticholinergic medicines, including atropine and butylscopolamine, may reduce this medicine’s effect. Your doctor or pharmacist may advise separating doses.
- Clinical trials in children have not been conducted. Older adults require careful monitoring and may need a lower dose if adverse effects occur.
- Reported side effects include diarrhea or loose stools, abdominal bloating, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, palpitations, rash and hives. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if symptoms occur.
- Serious liver injury, including fulminant hepatitis, liver dysfunction and jaundice, may occur. Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you develop unusual fatigue, loss of appetite, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
- Do not continue treatment for a prolonged period without medical review.
- Store at room temperature, out of children’s reach. Protect from direct sunlight, heat and moisture.
