Clobetasol Propionate Ointment 0.05% “MYK” is a high-potency topical corticosteroid belonging to Group 1 [Strongest], the highest classification among topical steroid medicines used in Japan.
Topical steroids are widely used to control inflammatory skin conditions because they can rapidly reduce redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort. While they do not eliminate the underlying cause of a skin disorder, they help improve skin condition and may reduce the cycle of scratching and further irritation.
This medicine contains clobetasol propionate, a synthetic corticosteroid with powerful anti-inflammatory activity. Because it is applied directly to the affected area, it acts locally on the skin and is generally associated with fewer systemic effects than oral corticosteroids when used appropriately.
The ointment formulation provides a protective layer on the skin and helps retain moisture, making it particularly suitable for dry, thickened, or lichenified skin lesions. Due to its very strong potency, it is commonly prescribed for severe symptoms and chronic inflammatory skin conditions. In general, it is not recommended for thin or delicate skin areas such as the face unless specifically directed by a healthcare professional.
This product is classified as:
- Group 1: Strongest potency
- Halogenated corticosteroid
