The predecessor of silver grain Jintan, "Red Large Jintan," first appeared in 1905 (Meiji 38) during the Russo-Japanese War.
Medical care in Japan at that time was very poor, and there were still many people who lost their lives due to colds and food poisoning. The founder, Hiroshi Morishita, came up with an idea in 1895 (Meiji 28), inspired by the pills that were commonly used in Taiwan. Isn't it possible to make a medicine that is effective against all diseases, easy to take, and convenient to carry and store?
Morishita himself went to Toyama, the home of pills, to learn how to produce them, and proceeded with research with the cooperation of the authority of pharmacy.
The idea was to coat the surface of the finished prescription in order to further improve the portability and storage stability of the pills. This coating technology will be inherited from what was originally Bengala to silver foil.
Morishita started by thinking about his name when making pills.
"Tan" of "Jintan" was known in ancient China as a herbal medicine for immortality. Morishita was thinking of a Chinese character that was easy to read and remember for the character "Tan", and received advice from the Chinese scholar Fujisawa Nangaku, who was the godfather of "Tsutenkaku," and Tenshu Nishimura, who was an editorial writer for the Asahi Shimbun. , The name "Jintan" was born.
In addition, there are various theories about the origin of the symbol, the large court uniform mark, and it is generally said that the Bismarck statue was designed. However, according to Morishita's words, Mark is a diplomat. In other words, "Jintan is a drug diplomat."
The name and symbol mark of "Jintan" is based on Morishita's idea, "I want many people to get the product. I want it to be useful for the health of people all over the world."
In 1907 (Meiji 40), just two years after the launch of "Jintan," the Export Department was newly established, and the overseas market was first cultivated from China.
In 1912 (Meiji 45), the Bombay branch was opened in India. Even Indians who do not know the Hinomaru will become so famous that it is said that they know "Jintan". After that, it was exported to more than 13 countries in the world such as India, Indonesia, Hawaii, Chile and Thailand.
At the same time, large-scale promotional activities were being carried out in Japan. It was intended not only as an advertisement, but also as a new attraction in the city, such as newspaper advertisements, large illuminations in front of Osaka Station and Tokyo Kanda. Furthermore, in response to the worries that there was no town name display and it was difficult to find a house, we put up a series of town name signs with the uniform mark.
He also showed the idea that advertising should be widely useful to society.
