The main ingredient of Nichiphagen is glycyrrhizin, derived from the licorice plant (Glycyrrhiza).

Glycyrrhizin has immunomodulatory, anti‑allergic, and anti‑inflammatory properties. It has been shown to improve liver function tests in chronic hepatitis.

While commonly used for liver disorders, it is also indicated for eczema, dermatitis, alopecia areata, and stomatitis.

 

Glycyrrhizin preparation

A drug that improves liver function and suppresses skin inflammation by the effect of glycyrrhizic acid, which is a component contained in licorice.

 

Efficacy

It has the effects of suppressing inflammation and allergies, promoting the proliferation of hepatocytes, suppressing liver inflammation and improving liver function, as well as suppressing skin inflammation and improving eczema and dermatitis.

It is usually used to improve liver dysfunction in chronic hepatitis, and to treat eczema / dermatitis, pediatric strophulus, alopecia areata, and stomatitis.

 

Usage

  • In general, for adults, take 2 to 3 tablets at a time, and for children, take 1 tablet 3 times a day after meals, but the dose may be adjusted according to your age and symptoms. Be sure to follow the instructions given.
  • However, if it is almost time for your next regular dose, do not take the missed dose and skip one dose. Never take two doses at a time.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you accidentally drank too much.
  • Do not stop drinking at your own discretion without the instructions of your doctor.

Warning

  • History of allergic reactions (e.g., itching, rash) to any drugs or foods; existing aldosteronism, myopathy, hypokalemia, or liver cirrhosis.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Concurrent use of other medications or products (including OTC drugs and foods) — these may increase or decrease this drug’s effects; inform your healthcare provider.

 

The most commonly reported adverse reactions include elevated blood pressure and abdominal pain. If you notice any of these symptoms, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

 

 

Rarely, the following symptoms may occur and could be early signs of the adverse reactions shown in brackets. If you experience any of these, discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention.

 

  • Edema, decreased urine output, weight gain [pseudoaldosteronism]
  • Weakness, muscle pain, limb cramps or paralysis [rhabdomyolysis]

Monoammonium glycyrrhizinate (also known as monoammonium glycyrrhizinate) 35 mg (25 mg as glycyrrhizic acid), Japanese Pharmacopoeia glycine 25 mg and DL-methionine 25 mg

 

Additives: Crystalline cellulose, lactose hydrate, carmellose calcium, precipitated calcium carbonate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, talc, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, ethyl cellulose, glycerin fatty acid ester, light anhydrous silicic acid, sucrose, gelatin, gum arabic powder, Titanium oxide, polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene glycol and carnauba wax
